Introdução
O biogas steam boiler system is an efficient energy solution for paper mill wastewater treatment plants. Utilizando o biogás gerado a partir da digestão anaeróbica como principal combustível, combined with gás natural as backup, este sistema produz vapor estável para aquecer tanques de águas residuais e manter a temperatura operacional ideal. The biogas steam boiler system not only improves anaerobic treatment efficiency, but also helps paper mills reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions, and achieve sustainable operation.
No entanto, anaerobic digestion requires a stable and strictly controlled temperature environment. Even small temperature fluctuations can significantly affect microbial activity, biogas production, and effluent quality.
Neste projeto, a paper mill installed two 6 ton per hour gas-fired steam boilers, fueled by both biogas and natural gas, to supply reliable steam for heating wastewater tanks and maintaining optimal process temperature.

Why Steam Heating Is Essential in Paper Mill Wastewater Treatment
Anaerobic reactors used in paper mill wastewater treatment normally operate under:
- Mesophilic conditions: 35–38°C
- Thermophilic conditions: 50–55°C
Stable temperature directly determines COD removal efficiency, biogas yield, sludge activity, and overall system stability.
By using steam as the heat source, the system provides fast heat transfer, precise temperature control, continuous and uniform heating, and year-round stable operation.
Project Overview: 2 × 6 TPH Dual-Fuel Steam Boiler System
- Boiler type: Gas-fired steam boiler
- Capacidade: 2 × 6 toneladas/hora
- Combustível: Biogas + gás natural
- Steam application: Heating anaerobic wastewater tanks
- Operation mode: Fully automatic PLC control
Biogas generated from anaerobic reactors is used as the primary fuel, while natural gas serves as auxiliary and backup fuel to ensure continuous operation.
Complete Boiler System Configuration
1. High-Efficiency Dual-Fuel Burner
O queimador is specially designed for biogas and natural gas mixed combustion, featuring automatic fuel switching, wide load adjustment, stable ignition, and low-NOx combustion design.
2. Deaerator and Deaerated Water Tank
The deaerator removes dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide from feedwater, preventing corrosion and extending boiler service life. Hot deaerated water is stored and continuously supplied to the boilers.

3. Soft Water Treatment System and Soft Water Tank
The soft water system removes hardness from raw water, preventing scale formation. The soft water tank ensures stable water supply and buffering capacity.
4. Boiler Blowdown System (Continuous and Intermittent Blowdown)
Both continuous blowdown and intermittent blowdown systems are installed to control total dissolved solids and remove sediment, improving thermal efficiency and protecting boiler components.
5. Steam Header (Steam Distribution Manifold)
O steam header collects steam from both boilers and distributes it evenly to multiple heating zones, ensuring stable pressure and flexible system expansion.
6. Condensate Recovery and Feedwater System
Condensate is collected, filtered, and pumped back to the deaerator, reducing water consumption, fuel usage, and operating costs.
Working Principle of the Biogas Steam Boiler System
- Wastewater enters anaerobic reactors.
- Organic matter is degraded, producing biogas.
